Rebuild the Internet — Emilia Michalkiewicz

When I think of the internet, I think globally. I think one of the most amazing things about the internet is how it can instantly connect people who may only be a five minute drive from each other or a fifteen hour flight. This idea of globalization is what inspired my representation of the internet. The black thread just represents the connections between people and the sharing of data but the colorful thread represents a specific aspect of this.

I think one of the most amazing things the internet does is allow people to not only share their ideas but for others to work with them and develop them on an international scale. An example I thought of while creating the map was of someone having an idea for a product. They then tell their friend in another state about it and together they find someone to design it. They can then take that design to someone who might manufacture it in different country, it is then ordered by someone in another country and gifted to their friend down the street. The sharing of ideas and globalization at the scale we have today, is only possible through the internet. The internet, to me, is connection.
